Shari’ah Advisory Board (SAB) of Ayady Takaful consists of prominent Shari’ah scholars and Islamic Finance experts. SAB ensures that Ayady Takaful conducts its businesses and operations are in line with rules and principles of Shari’ah.
Main Roles and Responsibilities of SAB include:
1. Advise Board of Directors and management on Shari’ah matters.
2. Endorse Shari’ah policies and procedures.
3. Endorse and validate relevant documentation of company.
4. Conduct Shari’ah review and Shari’ah audit.
5. Assist related parties on Shari’ah issues.
6. Provide written Shari’ah opinions.
The Three members of SAB of Ayady are:
Mr. Ezamshah Ismail
Mr. Ezamshah is a professional and academician with extensive experience in the insurance and Takaful industry. He currently lectures at INCEIF, Malaysia on Takaful and Risk Management and is the Dean of the School of Professional studies at INCEIF.
Ezamshah holds a Masters in Actuarial Science from Northeastern University, Boston, USA, and a Certificate in Shariah Law and LLM in Business Law from IIUM, Malaysia. He is also an associate member of the Society for Actuaries (US), a registered Financial Planner (RFP, MFPC) and a member of the International Centre for Leadership in Finance (ICLIF).
Previously he served as CEO of Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad. Before taking on this role, Mr. Ezanshah worked 14 years at Commerce Life Assurance Berhad, where he served as CEO, and was instrumental in setting up its Takaful operations. Earlier he had served in various consulting and management roles with the Mercer Consulting Group (US).
While he was the president of the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), Ezamshah was actively involved in the setting up of the first Life Reinsurance Company (MLRe) and was its first chariman. Ezamshah was also the first president of the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) as well as Vice President of the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA).
Sheikh Ahmed Sameer
Sheikh Ahmed Sameer is a lecturer at Faculty of Law and Islamic Studies at Maldives National University. He holds a Masters Degree in Shariah (Islamic law) from Maldives National University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Shariah (Islamic Law) from Madina Al Munawara. He is a board member at the Shariah Board of Alia Investments Private Limited. He has conducted various Shariah advocacy programs in association with Islamic Ministry of Maldives, Other governmental institutions and NGOs. He has a teaching background in Qur’an and Islamic Studies at various schools and institutions in Maldives.
Dr Aishath Muneeza
Dr Aishath Muneeza is among the key founders of Islamic finance in Maldives, a small island nation with a hundred percent Muslim population. She has experience in multiple aspects of Islamic finance industry. She is a shariah Advisor, an Islamic Finance Consultant, a researcher, a presenter, a regulator, a speaker, a trainer, an Associate Professor and an attorney who is actively involved in promoting Islamic finance. She is the driving force behind the establishment of Maldives Hajj Corporation, the Tabung Haji of Maldives and she has facilitated the establishment of more than ten financial institutions offering Islamic finance services. She structured the first corporate sukuk offered in Maldives and she also structured the Islamic Treasury Instruments for the government of Maldives. The Islamic Capital Market framework of Maldives has been shaped under her guidance and the legal framework of Islamic Capital Market in Maldives was developed by her. She is a registered Shariah Adviser with Securities Commission of Malaysia and Capital Market development Authority of Maldives. She has published numerous books on Islamic finance, available in all major bookstores across Malaysia and she is the first to publish comprehensive books on Islamic finance in Dhivehi language. She is the co-author of the winning essay of the worldwide Islamic finance essay competition organized in Kuala-Lumpur Islamic Finance forum (KLIFF) of 2010. She had won gold and silver medals in international research exhibitions for research conducted on disciplines related to Islamic banking and finance. Her contribution to Islamic finance industry has been recognised internationally and has been conferred several awards of recognition. She has received the prestigious “Rehendhi Award” highest award for women, conferred by the government of Maldives for her contribution in the development of Islamic finance industry. Currently she is an Associate Professor at INCEIF & the chairwomen of Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance that was set up by the government of Maldives to position the country as the hub of Islamic finance and Halal industry in the South Asia region.
